Referendum 51

10/21/2002

I would like to take this opportunity to urge all Chapter members to vote yes for Referendum 51. This Referendum, if approved in November, will fund transportation improvements statewide, as detailed in Senate Bill 6347.

Many citizens of eastern and central Washington think that this referendum is another instance of the west side of the state spending the east side's money on west side projects. NOT SO!

My research indicates that nearly $350 Billion of the money is allocated for projects within the boundaries of our Chapter area. These include projects in Yakima County, Walla Walla, Moses Lake, and Kennewick, as well as the beginning of major improvements to Snoqualmie Pass. Additional information on all projects may be obtained on the Washington State Department of Transportation web site (www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/R51).

Transportation improvements (on both sides of the state) will mean improved flow of goods and services; without transportation to the west side ports, our agricultural products cannot reach the world and the products of the world cannot reach us. AIA Washington supports this referendum as well as a majority of the Chapter Board.

Please join us in your support.
