Libeskind Plan Selected for WTC Site
New York City officials announced February 27 that they unanimously chose Daniel Libeskind’s site plan for the World Trade Center, calling it a “compelling vision” that is both “breathtaking and practical.”
“There is still a long road ahead of us,” Lower Manhattan Development Corporation Chair John Whitehead said, but lauded Libeskind’s plan as “the best map with which to start the journey.” During a press conference to announce the selection officially, Whitehead called the street plan “ingenious.”

Divine Grounds: Multipurpose Worship Center Expands Church’s Ministries and Fellowship
When Grace Church and its burgeoning congregation and expanding ministries voted to erect a new 4,500-seat church on a 62-acre site in Eden Prairie, Minn., they turned to Hammel Green and Abrahamson Inc. (HGA), Minneapolis, to design a multipurpose worship center that would honor the congregation’s vision, support its educational goals, and incorporate theatrical and performance capabilities.

State Chapter Applauds a Great Gumbo of Good Design
AIA Louisiana honored four architecture firms for nine homegrown projects—from a golf clubhouse to a room-within-a-room for a 12-year-old girl—in its 2003 awards program. Five of the buildings were additions or renovations, including one restoration of an 1840s French Creole house that was moved to a different parish to save it from destruction. Eskew+Dumez+Ripple pulled off a hat trick winning three of the awards.

The National Ethics Council has censured Phillip Vlieger, Assoc. AIA, for violating Rule 2.101 of the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
